The maritime working environment embraces virtually every nationality and culture, and comprises the physical, ergonomic, chemical, biological, psychological, and social elements which could lead to accidents. The responsibility as a shipowner is to facilitate and ensure the health and safety of all and contribute to the prevention of injuries and illnesses among seafarers working onboard their vessels.

Understanding, diligence, and care to own and colleague’s health, safety and welfare are the core of good working environment, health, and safety (HSE) work. Training and information provide workers with knowledge, understanding and awareness needed to work safely and avoid creating dangers that could place themselves or others at risk.

The HSE course developed by Tranvåg Maritime AS and has been evaluated by the Norwegian Maritime Authority to meet the mandatory requirements set by the Norwegian Maritime Authority for 40 hours of training in working environment, health and safety. (Ref. also: The ILO's Maritime Labor Convention (MLC)). The course is based on and meets MLC requirements. These requirements are incorporated into flag state legislations (NIS, UK, Isle of Man, Bahamas etc.).
